A man who was charged in a brazen Waipahu robbery over the weekend made his first appearance in court Monday.
Lindsey Furtado, 26, was charged with robbery and unauthorized entry into a home.
On Saturday at 7:40 a.m., police say Furtado entered Elena’s restaurant with a shirt over his head, wielded a knife and demanded money.
Police say witnesses directed police to a nearby apartment complex, where Furtado had allegedly forced his way into a unit.
He was arrested within a half-hour after the robbery occurred.
Furtado’s bail was confirmed at $250,000 and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
A HPD spokesperson confirmed the department believes Furtado is responsible for several robberies at food establishments, but could not specify which ones.
Saturday’s robbery occurred in the Tropicana Square shopping mall, the same mall where a Jack in the Box was robbed on July 14.
Friends of the suspect say he would often sleep at Waipahu District Park and would ask them for food and money.
