Victim of Big Island shooting dies from injuries

The victim of a July 3 shooting in Honaunau has died from his injuries inflicted by a gunshot wound.

Todd Shaver, 52, of Honaunau was pronounced dead at Kona Community Hospital at 7:45 p.m. Saturday, July 26. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

On July 3, Kona patrol officers responded to a 6:35 p.m. report of a shooting on the 83-5300 block of Highway 11 in Honaunau.

At a house being rented to several tenants, police found Shaver with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Fire/rescue personnel took him to Kona Community Hospital in critical condition.

Police arrested Monte Moreau, 44, at the scene. He is in police custody, but has not been charged with the death of Shaver.
