Storm watch: Construction cranes built to withstand strong winds

Since Iselle is expected to hit the state as a tropical storm with winds between 50 to 60 miles an hour, KHON2 wanted to know if construction cranes are built to withstand such winds.

Hawaiian Dredging Company is working on the Ala Moana Center expansion project.

The company told us its cranes are designed to withstand winds of up to 100 miles an hour, and it’s foundation allows the cranes to blow in the direction of the wind.
