Two men were arrested after a brief chase in Waikiki Monday morning.

Honolulu police were called to a break-in on Kapahulu Avenue around 10:15 a.m. When officers arrived, police say a suspect jumped into another vehicle driven by a second man.

Police say they eventually lost control of the vehicle and crashed near Jefferson Elementary School, then got out and ran.

“I heard a crashing sound and then I looked and I saw someone running from a vehicle. Next thing I know, there’s a cop right behind him chasing him,” said witness Allan Tang.

Other officers in the area caught the men on Leahi Avenue at around 10:30 a.m.

There was also a wrecked police car at the scene, but police say they are still unclear how the vehicle ended up that way.

Both suspects are facing car theft charges and police are investigating whether the two are responsible for other car break-ins.

The School for the Deaf and Blind nearby also was put on lockdown during the incident.
