Closures and cancellations ahead of Iselle, Julio

The following closures and cancellations were announced in anticipation of Iselle and Julio. This list is continuously being updated and subject to change.

All high school football games are canceled.

Wednesday, August 6

Oahu

  • Division of Forestry and Wildlife has closed the Peacock Flats camping area to hiking and camping, and the Manoa Falls trail.
  • At 10 p.m., all parks in the Kakaako Community Development District will be closed indefinitely.

Hawaii Island

  • Hawaii Volcanoes National Park: The park itself will remain open, however park officials are closing all backcountry areas and some roads beginning at 6 p.m. Closures will remain in effect until the storm has passed and conditions are safe: Chain of Craters Road, from Devastation Trail parking lot to the coast, all backcountry areas, including Mauna Loa and cabins, Mauna Loa Road (known locally as “Mauna Loa Strip Road”), all coastal areas and trails, including Apua Point, Keauhou, Halape and Kaaha, Kulanaokuaiki campsite, Napau campsite, Namakanipaio campgrounds (the A-frame cabins will remain open).
  • By 6 p.m., Division of Forestry and Wildlife will close all of its managed lands, including forest reserves, wildlife sanctuaries, natural area reserves, Na Ala Hele hiking trails, game management areas, including Keanakolu cabins, Ainapo hiking trail, Muliwai trail and Waimanu valley campground until further notice. DOFAW has suspended issuing camping permits.

Maui

  • By 6 p.m., Maui Division of Forestry and Wildlife will close all of its managed lands, including forest reserves, wildlife sanctuaries, natural area reserves, Na Ala Hele hiking trails, game management areas (including Lanai GMA); this closure also affects Polipoli State Park (persons with camping permits are being notified).

Kauai

  • By 6 p.m. Division of Forestry and Wildlife camping areas, including Waimea Canyon, Alakai Wilderness, Sugi Grove and Kawaikoi will be closed. As of Wednesday morning, Division of State Parks will close Napali Coast State Wilderness Park and the Kalalau trail will be closed to entering hikers. Trail closed signs will be posted at the Kalalau trailhead. State Parks will send a helicopter out on Wednesday to warn campers at Kalalau beach to evacuate or shelter in place.

Thursday, August 7

Oahu

  • Neighborhood Board #8: This meeting has been rescheduled for Thursday, August 14, at 6:30 p.m. at the Moiliili Community Center
  • Mark Takai’s final fundraiser

Hawaii Island

  • Office of Hawaiian Affairs
  • All public libraries
  • Central Pacific Bank’s Hilo and Kailua-Kona branches to close at noon.
  • State Courthouses and Judiciary Offices to close at noon. Closures include the Children’s Justice Centers, Offices of the Public Guardian and Driver’s Education Offices.
  • Department of Agriculture inspection offices in Hilo and Kona to close at noon.
  • All First Hawaiian Bank branches to close at 11 a.m. (Hilo, Honokaa, Kamehameha, Kamuela, Kealakekua, Kona, Pahoa and Waikoloa)
  • All Bank of Hawaii branches to close at 11 a.m.
  • All American Savings Bank branches to close at noon.

Maui County

  • Haleakala National Park: Kipahulu and Hosmer Grove campgrounds will close at noon, and Summit and Kipahulu districts will close at 3 p.m. Back country hikers have been notified they will need to leave the park before 3 p.m. No back country camping or cabin permits will be issued through the weekend. Existing weekend back country permits have been canceled. Also canceled are the Thursday Waikamoi hike (Summit District) and Saturday cultural demonstrations in the Kipahulu District. The entrance gates will be locked and the park will not open for sunrise viewing on Friday morning. Park managers will assess conditions on Friday and re-open the park once it is safe to do so.

  • Queen Kaahumanu Center to close at 3 p.m. Friday’s regularly scheduled farmer’s market and all weekend stage events have been canceled.
  • State Courthouses and Judiciary Offices to close at noon. Closures include the Children’s Justice Centers, Offices of the Public Guardian and Driver’s Education Offices. Drivers Education classes scheduled on Maui County for August 7 will be cancelled and rescheduled. Family Court hearings scheduled at the Molokai Courthouse on Thursday, August 7 and Friday, August 8 will be rescheduled to Thursday, August 28 and Friday, August 29.
  • Department of Agriculture inspection office in Kahului to close at noon.
  • First Hawaiian Bank, all branches to close at 2 p.m.
  • Bank of Hawaii, all branches to close at 2 p.m.
  • American Savings Bank, all branches to close at 4 p.m.

Friday, August 8

Statewide

  • Bank of Hawaii, all branches. Call Center operations, based in Kapolei, Oahu, will remain open with minimum staff to assist customers until further notice at 1-888-643-3888. Online banking and ATM services will continue to operate unless power interruptions are experienced.
  • American Savings Bank, all branches
  • Central Pacific Bank, all branches
  • All public libraries. For libraries with Saturday and Sunday hours, a determination on reopening will be made branch-by-branch based on weather, access and safety considerations.

Oahu

  • Ala Moana Center (expected to re-open Saturday)
  • Pearlridge Center (individual merchants may choose to remain open, center to re-open Saturday at 10 a.m.)
  • Kahala Mall (individual merchants may choose to remain open)
  • Ward Village
  • Battleship Missouri Memorial
  • WWII Valor in the Pacific Pearl Harbor Visitor Center
  • Remington College graduation, Hawaii Convention Center, rescheduled for Friday, September 19
  • 10th Annual Remodel It Right Remodel It Green Expo at Blaisdell Exhibition Hall
  • The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) — rescheduled for Sunday, August 17, and Thursday, 21. Call 447-3926 to reschedule.
