After playing a key role in helping the Red Sox capture the franchise’s eighth World Series in 2013, Maui native and Boston right fielder Shane Victorino’s nightmarish 2014 season came to an end this morning.
Four days after being placed on the disabled list for the third time this year, the 33-year-old Saint Anthony grad underwent lower back surgery in Los Angeles. Victorino’s procedure will keep him out of a uniform for the remainder of 2014.
The two-time all-star, and four-time gold glove winner is expected to be recovered by the spring of 2015.
Next year will be the final year of a three year deal in Boston, where he has hit .288 with 17 home runs and 73 RBI through 152 games.
