Residents in storm-ravaged Puna can enjoy a brief escape from recovery efforts this week, courtesy of L&L Hawaiian Barbecue and Augie T.
Augie T will do a free comedy show at the Makuu Farmers Market on Thursday at 6 p.m.
The comedian says he wanted to go down, help out the people and do something to help lift their spirits. He plans to help distribute food before he performs.
Meanwhile, L&L Hawaiian Barbecue in Pahoa will be giving free plate lunches and cold drinks to the first 500 in line this Friday, August 15, from 10 a.m. to noon at 427 Pahoa Road.
Recipients will have a choice of homemade kalua pork and cabbage or hamburger steak with gravy, plus a selection of Pepsi drinks, while supplies last.
“Our hearts go out to the families in Puna who loss electricity in their homes,” said Eddie Flores, president and CEO of L&L. “Y. Hata and Pepsi are helping us in bringing a crew down to our Pahoa location to prepare hot meals for the community.”
“We had to do something even small to help, especially with our L & L locations in Pahoa and Keaau. I know they are dealing with a lot after the storm, and I hope this meal will mean one less thing for them to worry about,” said L&L vice president and COO Bryan Andaya, a native of the Big Island whose family was directly affected by the storm.
