Haleiwa’s Florence drops perfect 10 in Tahiti

This afternoon, in an all-Hawai’i heat of round three of the ASP’s Billabong Pro Tahiti in Teahupo’o, John John Florence was almost completely perfect.

The 21-year-old followed up his 8.77, 9.67, and 9.93 scores by going hana hou with a perfect 10 on his fourth wave. Florence combo’d fellow Hawai’i boy, Kauai native Sebastian Zietz, on the way to eliminating him from the contest, 19.93 to 18.50.

Two-John’s “perfecto” marks as his first score of 10 in 2014. He will face off with Brett Simpson and Kai Otton in the fourth round. Surf permitting, the contest continues on Monday.
