After missing 2013 season with torn ACL, Apelu “excited” to carry the load for Kamehameha

Friday night in the Golden State, the Cover2 Power Poll’s 3rd-ranked Warriors of Kamehameha will make their 2014 debut against reigning California sectional and league champion Del Oro.

Junior quarterback Fatu Sua-Godinet and company will look to better their 9-2 record of 2013 in what was an extremely successful first season for Head Coach Doug Cosbie.

Expected to be a huge piece to the puzzle for Kapalama is senior running back Kaulana Apelu, who is now fully recovered from a torn ACL suffered in last year’s season opener against Castle.

“I’m not that nervous, I’m just more excited. More excited nerves than scared nerves. It’s just gonna be a real good feeling just being out there with my teammates. Being where I’m at today is just a real good feeling. It’s just makes everything seem so bright I guess and just excited to be out here again” said, Apelu.

As a Sophomore, Apelu ran for 647 yards on 100 carries with 8 touchdowns, leaving Cosbie to think that the offense could go through number-13.

“He’s got a real special skill set. There’s not too many high school running backs that can do the things that he does and it’s great having him back. He’s going to really help our offense. It’s going to take a lot of pressure off of Fatu at quarterback and it’s going to make life a lot easier on our o-line” said, Cosbie.

Warriors and Golden Eagles will face off on Friday at 5:00 pm HST. To follow the game’s live scoring play by play click here
