Battle of Big Island unbeatens headlines Week 5 schedule in Hawaii high school football

Many are arguing that the game of the week in Hawaii high school football will take place on the Big Island.

Friday night at Wong Stadium, the Cover2 Power Poll’s 8th-ranked Division I team Hilo will play host to D-II number-4 Kamehameha-Hawaii, marking as the only game of the weekend to feature two ranked teams.

Warriors, who stunned defending D-II BIIF champion Konawaena last week, led behind defensive back Isaiah Tauati’s 9 tackles and one interception bring a 1-0 record into the game.

Vikings, who won the BIIF crown in 2013, bring one of the most electric runningbacks in the state in Senior Tristin Spikes, who is averaging 132 yards per game this season with three touchdowns.

With the BIIF getting respect from power pollsters and the viewer vote, Hilo’s Head Coach David Baldwin says that the attention is nice, but the league has loftier goals for 2014 than mid-season rankings.
