Two unscheduled cane fires are burning in Paia.
The first fire was reported at 1:47 p.m. Wednesday across the street from Holy Rosary Church.
As a result, Baldwin Avenue is closed between the church and Paia Gym.
Maui Fire Department officials say the fire, which is approximately 3-5 acres in size, is roughly 75 percent contained.
The second fire was reported at 3 p.m. in a gulch on Hawaiian Commercial and Sugar Company land and is being handled by company personnel.
It is 5 acres, and is about 75 percent contained. At about 4:15 p.m. the fire was transferred to Hawaiian Commercial and Sugar Company. No injuries or damages were reported.
