Ask HPD: Is it illegal to park in a cul-de-sac?

Detective Sharie Souza of the Honolulu Police Department Criminal Investigation Division will answer this week’s question from a viewer.

Question: Is it ok or legal for cars/trucks to park in circle/cul-de-sac turn arounds in residential areas?

Answer:
It is illegal to park in a cul-de-sac, which is also known as a dead end turn around area. Violators can be fined $35.   Cul-de-sacs are used by emergency vehicles to maneuver and turn around during calls for service and must be kept clear for this reason.  We understand that parking is a premium in some areas, and we appreciate your cooperation.
