A man accused of kidnapping a 16-year-old boy in Kalihi back in February was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison.
According to police, Sunia Faaofonuu assaulted his wife and then ran away from his home.
He saw the 16-year-old outside a home on Kealoha Place, grabbed him and held him at gunpoint, threatening to shoot him if a woman who lived nearby didn’t drive Faaofonuu out of Kalihi.
But the woman refused, so Faaofonuu ran off with the boy, but did not harm him.
Faaofonuu was arrested for kidnapping, assault, theft and firearms offenses.
He will now have to serve a minimum of three years at Halawa Correctional Facility before getting a chance at early release.
