Bicyclists are celebrating changes along a busy road in Kaimuki.
There are now new bike lanes on both sides of Waialae Avenue.
It’s been years in the making.
Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell said Monday that he will keep pushing to create more bike lanes across the island.
“I want to start here and King Street and go forward, march forward every single year,” the Mayor said, “and keep pushing because I believe once we get a critical number of protected bike lanes, you are going to see a change in who rides and it is a lot easier.”
The city is also building bicycle lanes on Beretania Street.
