Man sentenced to 5 years in prison for copper theft

A man convicted of stealing copper on Oahu has been sentenced.
 
Michael Akau, 34, was given five years in prison and ordered to pay back $10,245 in restitution.
 
Akau and another man were found guilty of trying to take Hawaiian Telcom wiring near Nimitz Highway back in march.
     
He pleaded no contest back in June.
    
His accomplice Shawn Ogasawara was sentenced to five years in prison last month for his part in the crime.
    
Akau was on probation at the time of their arrest.
