Structure fire on Maui displaces five Haiku residents

A structure fire on Maui has displaced two adults and three children Saturday afternoon, according to the Maui Fire Department.

Paia and Makawao firefighters were on scene combating the fire on Hahana Road in Haiku.

MFD says the alarm came in after 2:30 p.m.

The 20 feet by 20 feet structure was located down the road in a gulch.

The fire is currently under investigation, with no cause determined yet. The damage from the fire is estimated at $60,000 to the structure and $50,000 for the contents within.

The fire was brought under control at 3:30 p.m.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross responded to the residential fire providing affected residents immediate emergency needs such as food, shelter and clothing.
