Progress made on Honolulu’s new protected bike lane along King St.

Work continues to make Honolulu a more bike-friendly city.

Crews are now installing berms along the new protected bike lane on King Street.

Before the path opens, the city says the berms will be painted white to make them more visible to motorists.

Workers will also put in plastic pillars with reflectors on them to prevent cars from crossing into the path.

Once completed, the King Street Cycle Track will serve as a two-mile, bicycle-exclusive lane between Alapai and Isenberg streets.

It is expected to open in December as a one-way lane and will be converted to two-way at a later time.

All driveways and intersections will be painted to remind drivers and bicyclists to merge safely.
