A pedestrian died Friday evening after being hit by a vehicle near the intersection of N. School Street and Houghtailing Street.
He was identified by the medical examiner’s office on Saturday as 73-year-old Onofre Quiton of a Honolulu address.
Police responded to the call at 11:45 p.m. Reports were that a 56-year-old female with a Waipahu address was driving west on N. School St. in a 1994 Toyota Corolla when it struck Quiton, who was in a marked crosswalk.
The pedestrian sustained major head and body injuries and was taken to Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition where he later died.
Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors for the cause of the accident.
The pedestrian death marks the 50th traffic fatality of the year, compared to 45 the same time last year.
