On Oahu a sinkhole at Kailua Elementary School has parents worried about the safety of their children.
The sinkhole is located in an overflow parking area, but is also very close to a nearby playground.
Right now, the hole is covered and the area is blocked.
Parents KHON2 spoke with say the sinkhole has been there a little more than a week.
“A week or two now and I noticed because I was dropping off my daughter to school and I usually park in that area, but it was completely blocked off.” said parent Erika Ayers.
“It was weird because one day I was walking around and looked at it and it was not there and then the next day when I came back it just appeared,” said student Kayla Ayers.
KHON2 talked to the Department of Education.
A spokesperson says says the school is currently working on fixing the sinkhole, and that it does not pose as a safety concern.
