Hundreds of residents in Central Oahu spent the night without power.
According to Hawaiian Electric, an initial outage occurred just after 9 p.m. Thursday, affecting nearly 1,300 homes in Mililani and Mililani Mauka.
Power was restored by 10 p.m. to approximately 500 homes after being switched over to another circuit. However, the rest remained out of power as repairs continued throughout the night.
At around 4 a.m., crews discovered additional damage that prevented power from being restored to the remaining 800 homes. Further inspection by helicopter of surrounding overhead lines had to wait until first light.
The company eventually determined a large tree branch had broken and brought down a power line.
Crews removed the tree branch and resumed repairs.
Work was completed before noon and power has since been restored to the area.
