A new report by the University of Hawaii shows 600 homeless people arrived in our state just in the last year.
So a new strategy is being worked on to tackle the growing homeless problem on Oahu.
Service providers are focusing on two things — getting better information on the homeless, and working together to help them.
“The best way to end homelessness is to create an effective system to bring people out of homelessness as soon as they fall into it, because the longer they are on the streets, the more difficult it is to re-stabilize them and reintegrate them into our communities,” said the governor’s coordinator on homelessness Colin Kippen
The providers met on Friday in recognition of national hunger and homelessness awareness month.
