A Maui man accused of trying to run down officers in a stolen vehicle has been charged.
Leeward Pagan of Kihei was charged with first-degree attempted murder, two counts of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and second-degree theft.
Bail for the 33-year-old was set at $1 million.
On Tuesday, Dec. 2, police say an officer ordered Pagan to get out of the car at La Perouse Bay.
Police say Pagan reversed the car and drove toward the officer, crashing into a police vehicle and causing minor injuries to the officer.
Police say Pagan then kept on driving, hitting another police car and a tree before surrendering.
The incident prompted authorities to close the bay for several hours.
Pagan was also arrested for resisting arrest, resisting an order to stop a motor vehicle, driving without a valid license and reckless driving.
Authorities say detectives are currently investigating the case and additional charges may be filed.
