Kauai police report that the driver of a Nissan Altima severed his arm in a Hanalei collision Friday night and was flown to Oahu for further treatment.
The man had been driving on Kuhio Highway in Hanalei near mile marker .5 at approximately 6:20 p.m. He was travelling south with his arm out of the window when he crossed the centerline and sideswiped a northbound vehicle, severing his arm.
The man continued heading south and stopped at the Hanalei police substation.
He was transported to Wilcox Hospital, and then airlifted to Oahu.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision also stopped at the police substation. He was not injured in the incident.
