Crowds gathered at locations around Oahu as soon as sales began for New Year’s firecrackers.
Just over 10,700 permits were sold on Oahu. Last week was the last chance to purchase one.
Because of the lack of inventory in 2013, the Honolulu Fire Dept. offered a two-week exchange program for last year’s unused permits.
Officials said 340 permits of the 1,600 unused 2013 permits were exchanged.
Retailers previously said they will have enough inventory this year. But despite ordering 25 percent more firecrackers this year, a manager at Don Quijote told KHON2 the store is expected to sell out sometime Friday afternoon.
Below is a list of locations where permit-only fireworks are available. We’ll update the list as information becomes available.
UPDATE: As of 4:30 p.m. on Monday, December 29, the following stores still have permit-only firecrackers in stock:
Bo Wah Trading Company, 1037 Maunakea St.
Foodland, 1460 S. Beretania St.
Longs Drugs, 1088 Bishop St. Suite 113
Walgreens, 116 S. Hotel St.
