A swimmer was found unconscious at a surf spot called China Walls in east Honolulu Sunday evening.
He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition where he later died.
Fire officials say the 28-year-old male was swimming, but when he tried to get back onto the rocks, he got washed off and pulled back into the ocean.
A bystander called for help just before 6 p.m.
Fire rescue crews pulled him out of the water and started CPR until the ambulance arrived around 6:50 p.m.
The victim has not been identified.
