Hawaii Island police have charged one person and released three others in connection with a fatal stabbing in Hilo on Tuesday.

At 11 a.m. Saturday, detectives charged Garrett Dahlin, 22, of Honomu with second-degree murder. His bail was set at $250,000. He is being held at the Hilo police cellblock pending his initial court appearance scheduled for Monday.

As for the other three people who were arrested Thursday with Dahlin in relation to the stabbing case; Lilly Costa, 22, of Honomu was released from police custody Friday night pending further investigation; and Brittne Morgan, 28, and Aaron Figueroa, 21, both of Honomu, were released Saturday morning pending further investigation.

Forty-three-year-old Brian Whetten, who had no permanent address, was found Tuesday with stab wounds in a drug store parking lot off Kilauea Avenue. He died later at Hilo Medical Center.

Police learned he had been confronted by two men while in the grassy area between a business off Kilauea Avenue and the mauka soccer fields off Kamehameha Avenue. After being stabbed, he managed to walk to the parking lot.
