After sitting idle for the past year, McKinley High School’s state-of-the-art softball field and girls’ locker room is finally open.
A special ceremony marked the occasion Wednesday morning with Bob Morikuni, the school’s athletics director, throwing the ceremonial first pitch.
The field was built a year ago, but failed inspection because the fire hydrant did not have enough water pressure. It finally passed inspection last month, and approval for the locker room followed.
McKinley is slated to host the Oahu Interscholastic Association softball playoffs this season.
“It’s been a long process, but we’re excited to open, have it here in this beautiful facility,” Morikuni said.
