Longtime business Sanders Piano Company announced Tuesday that it will be closing up shop after it sells off its remaining inventory of about one hundred pianos.
Manager Michael Rosen said “the Internet is to blame, because when people want to buy portable keyboards, they check the prices between what’s online and what we sell them for, and opt for what’s cheaper.” He added that a sluggish economy is also to blame for the slowing of sales.
The company, whose shop is located on S. King Street, has been in business for more than 40 years. Besides selling pianos, organs and electronic keyboards, the store offered repair and reconditioning work, sheet music and music lessons.
William Sanders founded the company in 1972 and at one time had three music stores on Oahu.
