HONOLULU – The University of Hawai’i baseball team got off to a rocky start to open the 2015 season, falling 12-0 to No. 15 Oregon on Friday night before a sold-out crowd at Les Murakami Stadium.
Rainbow Warrior starter Tyler Brashears (0-1) was handed the loss after allowing four earned runs on six hits in five and one-third innings of work.
Duck starter Cole Irvin tossed four scoreless innings with Conor Harber (1-0) picking up the win in five innings of scoreless relief.
Oregon (1-0), already up three runs, put seven on the board in the sixth inning to win going away. Mitchell Tolman (2-4, 1 R) and Brandon Cuddy (3-5, 4 R, 1 RBI) opened the inning with a double and a triple, respectively, to help the Ducks to the big inning.
The ‘Bows and Ducks square off for game two of the series on Saturday at 1:05 p.m.
