Honolulu Hale lit up in honor of domestic violence, sexual assault awareness

There’s something different about Honolulu Hale.

Every night through Sunday, the building will be lit in blue in support of “NO MORE Week,” a national movement to end domestic violence and sexual assault.

Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell proclaimed “NO MORE Week” in the City and County of Honolulu to raise awareness alongside a series of events.

“Domestic violence and sexual assault have devastating impacts on the lives of individuals, families and entire communities,” said Caldwell. “We must do more to address this problem. Initiatives such as NO MORE Week provide a powerful platform to amplify awareness of domestic and sexual violence, and better leverage the resources available to assist its survivors.”

Experts say 50,000 woman in Hawaii are victims of domestic violence each year. One in seven women in Hawaii are survivors.

The initiative is supported by Hawaii says NO MORE, a group of individuals and organizations throughout the state committed to reflecting Hawaii’s unique culture and community values in its approach to addressing domestic violence and sexual assaults.
