Student operated credit union helps local teen gain experience

A few weeks ago, we told you about the student operated credit union at Waipahu High School, a partnership between the school and HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union.

Today we’ll meet another young woman in the program.  Kelsie Ridela is a senior and the current branch manager of the student operated credit union.  She got a paid internship at the credit union last summer and used some of her knowledge from the program to help her mom open a business.

“The opportunities and experiences in and of itself are huge. But when we can go ahead and provide some financial resources for our students, and support them in that way, it makes the learning opportunity all the more real,” says Waipahu High School Principal, Keith Hayashi.
