(WPRI) — During the summer, Cape Cod is a popular tourist destination. However, after weeks of brutal winter weather, Cape beaches look a lot more like the Arctic than a vacation hot spot.

Images captured by Cape Cod photographer Dapixara show the beach in Wellfleet littered with huge chunks of ice – some of them several feet high.

The scenes from the Cape are just the latest of unusual scenes we’ve seen this winter. Just last month, it was so cold, the waves off of Nantucket began to freeze, looking more like Slurpee than water.
