G’day from Hawaii!
Australia’s Channel Seven’s top-rated “Sunrise” breakfast show has been broadcasting live from Oahu since Sunday.
From 9 a.m.-noon Hawaii time, the cast and crew are doing a show a day through Thursday from the Hilton Hawaiian Village’s Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon.
Nearly three million viewers from Down Under have been expected to tune in every day, and a group of 130 “Sunrise” viewers is also part of the visiting group who purchased a special promotional vacation package.
The resort partnered with the Hawaii Tourism Authority, Hawaii Tourism Oceania, travel agency Flight Centre and Jetstar Airways to bring the week’s worth of shows to the islands. According to HTO, the advertising value of the five live shows in Hawaii is approximately $17 million U.S. dollars. In 2014, a record 313,053 Australians visited Hawaii, a 2.6 percent increase compared to 2013.
Special guests from here and abroad have made appearances of “Sunrise,” and on Wednesday, pop singer and Grammy nominee Carly Rae Jepsen will perform. Jepsen’s current followup to her international smash hit “Call Me Maybe” is the just-released pop confection “I Really Like You.”
On the show’s last day on Thursday, it will feature a Hawaiian wedding ceremony with musical guest Australian boy band Justice Crew.
