The introduction of University of Hawaii athletics director David Matlin wasn’t the only big news to come out of Manoa Wednesday afternoon.
Rainbow Wahine volleyball head coach Dave Shoji told KHON2 he will be returning to lead the Lady ‘Bows for his 41st season in 2015.
Shoji had been unsure of his return following the loss of his top assistant, Scott Wong, to Pepperdine back on December 10.
“A lot is going to depend on who the next athletic director would be. I just want to make sure the next athletic director is supportive of everything that I feel strongly about.” Shoji said on December 10th. “If we had some kind of clash or something it’d be more difficult, but I just want to see who it is, and I’m sure I’d have a good relationship with that person, but I want to wait.”
The 68-year-old isn’t committing to a long-term decision, but is excited about the outlook for 2015.
“We have a really good team. That’s probably the main reason, but I’m not quite settled on what I’d like to do,” Shoji told KHON2. “Those are things I think about every single day. I’m excited for one more season at least and we go from there.”
The Rainbow Wahine defeated Texas in an exhibition match at the Stan Sheriff Center last week.
