Local woman raises funds to help those devastated by Maysak

Thousands of beach-goers in the northeastern Philippines had their weekends cut short by Tropical Storm Maysak.

The storm weakened from super-typhoon strength before hitting the Philippines Sunday.

Officials say there have not been any storm-related deaths reported so far there.

Maysak has now been downgraded to a tropical depression but it was a Super Typhoon when it swept through Micronesia, killing four people destroying hundreds of homes, including in the Ulithi Atoll.

A local girl Mikela Yarawamai from Kauai, whose grandparents live in Ulithi, has started a group funding campaign on fundly.com to help the communities there rebuild.
