Hawaii’s wackiest race is back next weekend

Hawaii’s wackiest race is coming up: The Banana Man Race, with a Super Fruit themed contest! For the 14th Annual Jamba Banana Man Chase, race participants are invited to dress up in their most heroic, Super Fruit costume.

Chris Belaras, Jamba District Manager, explained that the race is themed after Jamba Juice Hawaii’s new product line, using superfruit. “We’re very excited about our new exotic superfruit, which is the pitaya; people may know it better as dragon fruit. The fruit comes in our “tri-core” line of smoothies, juice, and bowl: Strawberry Dragon Smoothie, Tropical Dragon Smoothie, Pitaya Primo Bowl, and the Dragon Berry Juice. It’s a great option for protein and fiber, and each product has two or more servings of fruit. It’s an excellent source of Vitamins A and C, full of healthy antioxidants.”

He showed us the products on Wake Up 2Day:

Pitaya Primo Bowl, an energetic blend of mango, pitaya, passion fruit and pineapple, topped with organic granola, fresh banana and coconut flakes. Offering 2 servings of fruit, the bowl is a good source of Vitamins A and C, protein and fiber.

Strawberry Dragon Smoothie provides 2.5 servings of nectarous fruit, with orange, mango, passion fruit, pitaya, strawberry and banana, and is protein-packed, full of Vitamins A and C.

Tropical Dragon Smoothie is a cooling, tart blend of guava, pitaya, pineapple and mango. It provides 2.5 servings of fruit, and is an excellent source of Vitamins A and C.

Dragon Berry Juice is a pure, all-natural drink of apple, carrot and pitaya, providing 2 servings of fruit and plenty of Vitamin A.

The race is on Saturday, May 2, at 7 a.m. at Magic Island at Ala Moana Beach Park. After the race, there will be a panel that judges the costumes and the best costume wins a trip for two on Alaska Airlines.
