Idol Chatter: Will the emotional outburst of last week affect the voting?

Every Wednesday through the finals of American Idol, Jordan Segundo will join us for Idol Chatter. Jordan was Hawaii’s first American Idol finalist and he shares the benefit of his experience on that stage, with our Wake Up 2day viewers when he presents opinions, recaps, and commentaries on the latest American Idol crop.

Things got heated on American Idol last week when Quintin Alexander confronted Harry Connick Jr., after Connick Jr. called him out on comments he made about the show. Alexander’s behavior sparked a bit of controversy with some saying it was disrespectful, while others applauded him for speaking up. So the question is: Will Alexander’s emotional outburst affect the voting? We’ll find out tonight.

Back to the competition. Unfortunately for quirky contestant Joey Cook, her performances couldn’t save her from elimination. It was Rayvon Owen who earned the fan save for a third week in row, after delivering the best performance of the night with his passionate rendition of Always On My Mind. But was it strong enough to keep Owen out of the bottom two this week? Or will he fight for the save once again?

Tonight, the Top 6 take on Arena Anthems. The contestants will sing any two songs performed by a mega-superstar or group that can fill an arena. Some of the songs you’ll hear tonight will be from artists like The Beatles, Rod Stewart, Maroon 5 and even Justin Bieber.

This week in Idol News, American Idol has not only produced musical stars, but a few former contestants have also found success in television and film.

The most notable is Season Three seventh place finisher Jennifer Hudson. Her big break was starring in the 2006 smash hit Dreamgirls, which earned her a Golden Globe and an Academy Award. In 2013, she was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Recently, Hudson appeared right here on FOX on the number one television show, Empire.

Another Idol Alum making a name for herself in television and film is Season Four runner up Katharine McPhee. Since her appearance on the show, she has gone on to star in numerous TV shows and movies including You May Not Kiss The Bride, which was filmed right here in Hawaii. You can currently see McPhee on the hit TV series Scorpion, as well as her latest TV movie, In My Dreams, which reairs this Saturday and Sunday on the Hallmark Channel. However, she hasn’t forget her musical roots; McPhee is working on a new album. The lead single, Lick My Lips, will be released in a few weeks!

Jordan’s prediction for this week’s bottom two: Quintin Alexander and Rayvon Owens. American Idol is on at 7 p.m. tonight on KHON2.
