It may only be Wednesday but it’s never too early to start planning for the weekend! Jordan Segundo joins us in studio with a list of events happening around town this weekend in our new weekly segment, 808Update.
With Memorial Day weekend ahead, there are lots of fun activities for everyone!
50th State Fair
The 50th State Fair kicks off this Friday May 22 and happens every weekend until July 5 at Aloha Stadium. The festivities this year feature the usual carnival rides and ono food; but also great entertainment and circus acts that are worth checking out. Some of the novelty acts include “The Grizzly Experience” which features an up-close-and-personal look at Alaskan Grizzly Bears, there will also be a stunning equestrian stunt show that features acrobatic tricks involving beautiful horses, there will also be pig races and even a petting zoo – Acts that can only be seen at the 50th State Fair.
As for musical acts, powerhouse group Fifth Harmony will be performing on June 12 at 9 p.m., local acts include, Aiden James, The Jimmy Weeks Project, and Jordan Segundo. Jordan will be performing on the main stage on June 6 at 9 p.m.

Big Island Film Festival
If you’re on Hawaii Island, the 10th annual Big Island Film Festival starts tomorrow and goes until May 25 at the Fairmont Orchid over on the Kohala Coast of the Big Island. The five-day film festival will feature films from Hawaii and around the world and will focus on storytelling with a question and answer session following each film. There will also be screenwriting and filmmaking sessions with top professionals from Hawaii and beyond.

Mardi Gras Follies 2015
This Saturday, The Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association takes the stage at the Hawaii Theatre and presents Cabaret IV: “Jack Cione’s Mardi Gras Follies 2015”!
It’s a lavish production featuring comedy, dance and a cast dressed in Las Vegas styled costumes of feathers, bangles, and bling.

Memorial Day Ceremonies
There are lots of Memorial Day events happening across all islands this weekend. On Oahu, the City and County of Honolulu will hold its 66th annual Memorial Day Ceremonies on May 25 at the Punchbowl National Cemetery of the Pacific. It starts at 8:30 a.m. and is free and open to the public. Parking is limited, but there will be a bus route available from the Alapai Transit Center to the cemetery from 7-8 a.m. Regular bus fares apply.
In entertainment news, Taylor Swift has been having a fantastic week. Swift topped the list for Maxim magazines Hot 100 and this week she premiered her steaming new music video for “Bad Blood” which, in just three days, got more than 27 million views on youtube.
Taylor Swift kicked off her “1989” world tour earlier this month and one of her backup dancers is from Hawaii. Farrington High School graduate Mark Villaver is one of 12 male backup dancers for Taylor’s new tour that hits more than 45 cities in five different countries. Congratulations to Mark!
