University of Hawai’i quarterback Max Wittek and offensive lineman Ben Clarke were named to Phil Steele’s Preseason all-Mountain West first team. The all-conference teams will be released in the 2015 Phil Steele’s College Football Preview.
Other Rainbow Warriors mentioned on the first four teams were receiver Marcus Kemp (2nd team), defensive lineman Kennedy Tulimasealii (2nd), receiverQuinton Pedroza (3rd), and defensive back Trayvon Henderson (4th).
Wittek, a transfer from USC, has yet to take a snap for UH after sitting out last season due to NCAA transfer rules. The senior appeared in 13 career games for the Trojans during the 2012 and ’13 seasons. Clarke, a three-time all-MW honorable mention pick, has not missed start in three seasons at Hawai’i. In 2014, he was selected as the team’s Offensive Player of the Year for the second time in his career.
Kemp, a junior from Layton, Utah, led the ‘Bows with 797 receiving yards and was second with 56 receptions in 2014. Pedroza, a senior from Chino, Calif., had a team-high 59 receptions for 674 yards last season. The duo each led the Rainbow Warriors with three receiving touchdowns.
Henderson, a junior from Sacramento, Calif., was second on the team with 63 total tackles, including three for loss and two interceptions.
The Rainbow Warriors open the 2015 season at home, Sept. 3 against Colorado. Kick-off is 7:00 p.m. at Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium.
