Hawaii’s first urban vertical farm

It’s Hawaii’s first urban vertical farm, and it’s in the Our Kakaako neighborhood. MetroGrow Hawaii utilizes technology to grow high quality produce in a controlled environment.

The farm is interesting in that it uses aquaponics and other technology to grow microgreens and other veggies. The market for its products are gourmet restaurants, but can serve the public when the inventory is large enough.

Kerry Kakazu, the head of MetroGrow, and Melissa Chang from Frolic Hawaii joined us in studio. Kakazu brought in some samples of what he’s growing at his urban farm.

They’re having their first public open house today, June 3rd.
