The fifth round proved to be a hot bed for the fiftieth state this morning.
Just nine picks after Campbell high school’s Ian Kahaloa was selected by the Cincinnati Reds, Saint Louis graduate Ka’ai Tom was tabbed by the Cleveland Indians with the 154th overall selection in the Major League Baseball draft.
Tom, a junior outfielder at the University of Kentucky, was a 2014 All-SEC first team selection. He had an encore season in 2015 hitting .375 with 5 home runs and 51 runs batted in. The 5’9 185 lb. former Crusader is lauded for an advanced hitting approach, and lightning quick hands.
He will have until July 17th to negotiate a professional contract, or return to the Wildcats for his senior season.
