The HMSA Kaimana Awards & Scholarship Program honors high school seniors and their schools for excellence in athletics, academics, community service, healthy activities, and sportsmanship. This year, Kaydee from Waiakea High School, was awarded a scholarship, for her work in basketball, academics, and many volunteer hours.
Rapozo was a four-year letter-winner in basketball, a team captain during her junior and senior seasons, and twice earned all-league mention. She was involved in a number of community service projects, but one experience has been the most life-changing. Volunteering with the Hawaii County Nutrition Program for the elderly gave her an awareness of the challenges that our kupuna face, and it inspired her career path.
Rapozo will stay close to home and attend the University of Hawaii at Hilo. She’ll major in biology and pursue a career in geriatrics so she can continue to serve her community’s elderly population and their families. She won a scholarships for $5,000.
