Kauai officials are thanking Steven Spielberg for featuring the Garden Isle on the big screen.

“Jurassic World” broke box office records this weekend for the highest grossing opening weekend ever.

Many scenes were shot on Kauai, including at Napali Coast State Park, Kauai Ranch and Valley House waterfall, and other scenes were shot on Oahu.

“Jurassic World” follows “Jurassic Park” (1993), “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” (1997), and “Jurassic Park III” (2001), all of which were also filmed on Kauai.

In appreciation of Spielberg’s longstanding support of Kauai as a film location, the Kauai Visitors Bureau (KVB), in conjunction with the County of Kauai, created a special tribute video called “Mahalo Nui Loa Steven Spielberg.”

It shows Kauai residents holding banners with that same message at several island locations seen in the Jurassic movies.

The entire video was shot, edited and scored by a Kauai-based production team.
