Three years after making his UFC debut at 19 years of age, Waianae graduate Max “blessed” Holloway inked a career milestone Monday, announcing that he will Main Event the UFC’s Fight Night card in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada on August 23rd.
Riding a 6 fight winning streak, Holloway, currently ranked 5th in the Featherweight division, will face number-7 Charles Oliveira at the SaskTel Centre, which has a capacity of 15,000.
“I’m stoked. It’s a great feeling that the UFC is confident with me headlining a show. I can’t wait to get out there and perform.” said, Holloway.
During his current winning streak, the 23-year-old Holloway has finished five of his opponents in that stretch, the most recent being a third-round submission of Cub Swanson at UFC on FOX 15 in April.
It’s expected that the winner of the bout, would likely be just one more victory away from earning a title shot. The current UFC Featherweight Champion is Jose Aldo. He will defend his crown against Conor McGregor on July 11th as the co-main event of the UFC 189 card. Holloway’s most recent defeat came at the hands of McGregor on August 17, 2013. Holloway lost that fight via unanimous decision, and is the only fighter to ever take McGregor the distance in a UFC fight.
Holloway and Oliveira will join Tom Wright, UFC Executive Vice-President and General Manager for Canada, Australia and New Zealand, at a press conference at the SaskTel Centre on the arena floor on Wednesday, June 24th.
