Sad news, a longtime local restaurant is closing its doors.
Kenny’s Restaurant opened in 1966 at Kamehameha Shopping Center in Kalihi alongside Kenny’s Burgerhouse.
Now, owner John Fujieki confirms, it will close on July 5.
Fujieki told KHON2 he decided to sell in large part due to health reasons and thanks the public for their years of support.
Longtime customer Bernard Nuesca says he will miss the food. “I live around here, so I come here often, maybe once a week or twice a month,” he said. “The thing that I like there most is their fish. I always eat fish from here… fried fish or ahi belly.”
The company also operates Kenny’s Hawaiian Barbeque in Royal Hawaiian Center’s food court. That location will close on July 4.
There is still hope the restaurant can reopen. Fujieki says he is looking for a buyer for the Kalihi restaurant and has a potential buyer for the Waikiki location.
The company employs 57 people.
