The hiker who apparently fell to his death from the Olomana trail Saturday morning has been identified.
He was Glenn Vopper, 53, of Orange Park, Fla.
The call came in at 11:49 a.m. of a hiker who fell approximately 200 feet from the trail between the first and second peak.
“We don’t know where he fell from exactly, but preliminary information given was that the peak is about 200 feet up,” said Battalion Chief Mark Nakagawa Saturday.
Vopper’s body was airlifted by a Honolulu fire rescue crew down to Maunawili District Park at 1:47 p.m.
According to the fire department, Vopper was one of a group of four men. When rescuers got to him, he was already unconscious with no pulse.
