Police have made no arrests in what sources confirm is an assault on State Representative Tom Brower.
According to sources Brower was trying to take video of an expanding homeless camp in the area, and that’s when an altercation occurred.
A Spokeperson for the Department of Public Safety says there was an incident at around 5 p.m. Monday. Representative Brower’s Spokesperson said he was taken to the hospital and later released.
This incident comes just weeks after the City Council overrode the Mayor’s veto of an expanded sit-lie ban which would include areas like Kahou Street along Kapalama Canal, which has seen a huge increase in it’s homeless population.
Mayor Cadlwell had rejected it saying it was too expansive and could lead to court challenges that could eventually do away with the sit-lie measure which was in place.
Brower has made headlines before, just a few years ago he made international headlines by walking around the city with a sledgehammer and bashing in old abandoned shopping carts.
The carts are often used by the homeless to transport or store their belongings.
