Ask HPD: The Ride-Along Program

Sharie Souza of the Honolulu Police Department Criminal Investigation Division will answer this week’s questions from a viewer.

Question:  What is a ride-along and what do they teach you while you are on a ride-along?

Answer:  Anyone who goes on a ride along will get to see what our officers experience on a daily basis. They will ride with a patrol officer and hear the different types of calls for service our officers are sent to throughout the day. It is also a great chance to ask the officer questions you wouldn’t normally have the chance to.

For more information on police ride-alongs, you can contact our Community Affairs Division at 723-3475 or email them via our “Contact Us” page.  Ride-along waiver forms and information are located on our Community page.
