Maui firefighters responded to a call Saturday afternoon of a structure fire in Wailuku.
The call came in at 12:43 p.m. of a single-story home on fire on Alani Place in Happy Valley.
Firefighters arrived to find the rear of the house in flames. Four people were preparing food inside the home when someone smelled smoke. After investigating, they found the exterior part of the house on fire and quickly evacuated.
Fire crews had the fire under control by 1:05 p.m. and extinguished at 1:42 p.m. There were no injuries and no damages to neighboring structures.
A family of three adults and two chlidren live in the home, which sustained fire damage to 25 percent of the structure.
Volunteers with the American Red Cross is assisting the family.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and an estimate of damages is not available.
