Suspect arrested for assaulting lawmaker at Kakaako homeless camp

Honolulu police report Friday that a suspect was arrested for the assault of state Rep. Tom Brower at a Kakaako homeless encampment.

The case has been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.

Because the suspect is a minor, his name has not been released.

Brower says there were other people who assaulted him and hopes they can come forward.

“It would help this one individual,” Brower said. “I think the one individual may know the other people so I would hope he would cooperate with police.”

On Monday, June 29, the Waikiki representative was assaulted near the Children’s Discovery Center. He suffered a cut near his eye, bruised ribs and scrapes on his hand.

Brower said the attack occurred as he was taking pictures of homeless camps in the area.

There was also a theft investigation involved, but police say it was deferred pending further developments.
